Community Alliance Party Response to Equstrian Issues Paper
New Document
Val Jeffery
Community Alliance Party Candidate for Brindabella.
Thank you for your email and particularly for giving me all the background information.
Obviously there is too much details for me to absorb in a short time but please be
assured that I am very interested in your concerns. I am not going into this election
making promises on every little populist issue as the other candidates are, but I am
putting my efforts into achieving good governance for the ACT and covering all issues
like yours in doing so.
I look forward to being in a position to follow this up after the election.
All the best and please keep safe.

Community Alliance Party Candidate for Brindabella
Thankyou for providing the detailed email outlining the concerns of the ACTEA and issues facing the equestrian community in general. I am pleased to offer the following response to your specific questions based upon the documented policies of the Comunity Alliance Party.
Maintenance of Competition Grounds
The Community Alliance Party values the contribution of sport and recreation to the physical and psychological wellbeing of the ACT community. These activities bring communities together across the generations through fun and leisure activities.
The Alliance will work with communities and sporting organisations to ensure the sustainable provision of high quality facilities for sport, training, and recreation across the ACT.
The Alliance believes that well-maintained and environmentally-sustainable sports facilities and well-equipped sports programs are essential to ongoing participation
The Alliance recognises that safe sporting and recreational facilities combined with an effective activity-promotion program will encourage participation of all sectors of the community in physical activities.
The Alliance is committed to maintaining the recreational facilities that occupy the environmental corridors of the ACT, such as horse paddocks, riding, walking and cycling trails, recognising the benefits to the social, environmental and health benefits to the ACT community
Bicentennial National Trail
The Alliance supports the promotion of Canberra as a gateway to the Australian Alps, including identifying Canberra as the start or finish of the Australian Alps Walking Trail and the Bicentennial National Trail.
The Alliance will work with the community, business, and government and non-government agencies to develop an integrated long-term tourism strategy for the ACT region that is environmentally sensitive, socially sustainable, and economically viable. This will involve the maintenance and promotion of the Bicentennial National Trail.
The Alliance supports the upgrading of visitor facilities and walking and riding trails in the natural areas of the ACT.
Equestrian Trails Generally
The Alliance promotes decentralised neighbourhood planning, preserving the nature corridors which provide natural buffer zones between suburbs and industrial areas. The preservation of the existing trails used by the equestrian community is valued as part of the amenity of these buffer zones which allow Canberra to remain the Bush Capital.
As stated above in relation to the maintenance of competition grounds:
The Alliance recognises that safe sporting and recreational facilities combined with an effective activity-promotion program will encourage participation of all sectors of the community in physical activities.
The Alliance is committed to maintaining the recreational facilities that occupy the environmental corridors of the ACT, such as horse paddocks, riding, walking and cycling trails, recognising the benefits to the social, environmental and health benefits to the ACT community.
Government Horse Paddocks
The Alliance recognises the benefit to the ACT community and is committed to preserving the government paddock space and the interconnecting equestrian trails.
The Alliance would ensure that the equestrian community would be invited to contribute to any decision which may lead to the redevelopment of existing government paddock space so as to ensure that an appropriate replacement is provided.
On a personal note, I grew up in Weston Creek and kept my horse at Bibaringa, enjoying the many forest trails of Stromlo and the ability to ride to Champions (back of Chapman) or to Forrest Park/ Equestrian Park without having to ride in traffic. I made many friends of all ages through the use of the excellent equestrian facilities in Canberra, with this personal connection to what so many never experience I have a particular interest in ensuring appropriate facilities are provided and maintained. Beyond the preservation of what we have, I am keen to see the planning for any new suburban development to also extend the provision of safe trails (for horses, pedestrians and cyclists) and further horse paddocks so as to enable the next generation to enjoy what I already have.
I trust that the responses provided have been of assistance in identifying the position of the Community Alliance Party in relation to the concerns of the equestrian community of the ACT. I have attached a selection of Policy Statement documents on related matters to assist you in further understand how the responses have been derived. Should you require any further information or if there is anything more that we can do please feel free to contact me on the details below.
